This Story
One must become so many magical creatures as a parent. It’s a joyful bit amidst a lot that does not feel so magical in parenting, or maybe you loves have it all together. Wink.
Fifth tooth came out on a camping trip. It was almost glamping the cabin was so nice. It has been a while since the first four were lost in fairly rapid succession (also the four front!), so there was a lot of celebrating and looking at that former chomper...treasured for it’s innate wonder and the money it would be bringing.
You can make a lot with a tooth these days, you see. As long as you believe in fairies...really, certain ones. The mice don’t bring much, you see...coins. The standard US fairy can bring as much as ten dollars. But, yes, wait for it...we learned from classmates that if you clean your tooth until it sparkles and put it in a glass of water by your bed instead of under your pillow that the Norwegian tooth fairy will come AND bring you twenty freakin’ bucks.
So when that tooth was lost, so were we.
It didn’t help the despondency that we were under the weather (“it’s an idiom”, I am frequently and charmingly reminded) and a search party that included several adults was formed. Quite a lot of ground was covered. Many times. Lots of stone teeth were found in the gravel, but they were all missing that fresh root.
So we came home without what we needed for the exchange. Weather didn’t improve quickly, so we were getting by during the week, but eventually antibiotics were initiated for a sinus infection. And the other night, coming in from yoga and checking on my little boo, I found the sweetest note laid atop a small Tupperware container with water in it.
Dear tooth fairy, I lost my tooth. I hope I still get 20 doloarss. Love, Walter
